If you have the passion to be a well-balanced human being and to develop yourself in all the different areas of your life, you have to develop and give attention to your inner abilities. These qualities can help and enable you to cope with yourself and your life situation. For sportsmen and women the development of these abilities is no longer an option. It is becoming more and more important to be able to cope physically and emotionally. The sportsmen who have this will be at a definite advantage.
Although you may at first be a little resistant and regard this as not really something you want to do or need, think again. What do you stand to lose by learning or not learning these skills? And what can you gain by having the awareness and control of your emotions and thoughts? These two qualities, emotions and thoughts, are most important when talking and teaching emotional intelligence. They are also most important in determining the quality of your performances.
Learn about yourself and develop the techniques that can really put you ahead of all the others. Just remember that it takes time, dedication and practise to make it part of yourself. You can’t become emotionally intelligent overnight, but it is within everyone’s reach.
